Write an Essay about Dairy

The image of Vermont is synonymous with Dairy. So much so, that sometimes we forget what a huge force the dairy industry is in relation to our history, culture and economy. Dairy is the #1 agricultural industry in Vermont. That’s why the Vermont Agency of Agriculture has chosen a new mascot, and along with Ag in the Classroom, we’re asking our students to Name That Cow & Write an Essay about Dairy.

There will be two grade categories with prizes awarded for each:

  • Third and Fourth Graders topic: Why Dairy is Good for ME!
  • Fifth and Sixth Graders topic: A Day on the Dairy Farm

The two winners will be asked to join our new mascot at the Vermont Mountaineers game in Burlington on Friday, June 27, 2008. One winner will have the chance to throw the first ball or announce the official name of the new Vermont Agency of Agriculture cow mascot.

We hope that teachers and students alike will enjoy incorporating the Dairy Essay Contest into their Vermont teaching and learning. If you wish, please make copies of the enclosed information for the appropriate personnel. We greatly appreciate your assistance!
